Predominant maturation in Oloroso sherry casks brings dark fruit notes together with the pronounced peat character of this Islay single malt. Bholsa takes its name from caves on Islay’s north coast.

Bholsa is bottled at 50% ABV without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, red fruit, walnut and orange zest mingle with peat smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, raisins, dates and ripe plums meet Islay peat.
• Finish: The long, smoky finish grows more peppery and fuller, with a creamy texture. Gentle saline and light woody notes follow before mint closes the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Ardnahoe Distillery stands beside Loch Ardnahoe in north-eastern Islay. After decades in the whisky business, Stewart Laing and his sons Andrew and Scott established the distillery to make their own single malt. The first distillation runs took place in October 2018.

Ardnahoe uses water from the nearby loch and ferments the wort in four Oregon pine washbacks. Following slow distillation in two copper stills, the vapour condenses in traditional worm tubs.
