Special Features:

Càraid Ìleach No. 2 is the PX edition of the two-bottling “Islay pair”. This limited Ardnahoe Islay single malt was matured entirely in Pedro Ximénez sherry quarter casks and bottled at 50%. It retains its natural colour and was not chill-filtered.

The quarter casks used have a capacity of 50 litres. Their smaller size increases the internal wood surface area relative to the volume of whisky. Ardnahoe used these casks for the entire maturation rather than merely for a final finish.

Raspberries, stewed plums and candied orange open the profile. Sultanas, ripe figs and cinnamon follow, leading into a long, warm finish with gentle smoke.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals raspberries, stewed plums and candied orange alongside maritime peat smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, sultanas, ripe figs and cinnamon combine with the sweet character of PX sherry.
• Finish: The finish remains long and warming, accompanied by a gentle smoky note.

Distillery/Bottler:

Ardnahoe Distillery stands beside Loch Ardnahoe in north-eastern Islay. It was founded by Stewart Laing and his sons Andrew and Scott. Construction began in late 2016, distillation commenced in October 2018, and cask 001 was filled on 9 November of that year.

Ardnahoe dries its malted barley over peat smoke and ferments the wort for approximately 65 to 70 hours. Slow distillation takes place in two pot stills fitted with unusually long, downward-sloping lyne arms. Traditional worm tubs condense the vapour slowly and contribute to the texture and complexity of the spirit. The distillery produced Càraid Ìleach No. 2 and bottled the whisky as its own PX quarter-cask release.
