Special Features:

Oloroso sherry casks shape the entire maturation of Armorik Sherry Cask, rather than just a final finishing period. Having previously held the Andalusian wine, they add candied fruit and spice to the distillery’s fruity character. This single malt thus combines its Breton origins with a distinct sherry influence.

The whisky is made from French organic barley, including barley grown in Brittany. It is distilled twice in pot stills and carries the protected geographical indication Whisky Breton. Its amber colour is natural, and it is not chill-filtered. It is bottled at 46% in a 0.7-litre bottle with gift packaging.

Armorik Sherry Cask won gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2017 and the International Spirits Challenge in 2021. It received silver at France’s Concours Général Agricole in 2019 and 2023.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is intense and delicate, with a subtle sherry influence. Sweet vanilla and citrus fruit meet a touch of dried fruit and a hint of menthol.
• Palate: The whisky is rounded and balanced on the palate. Crème brûlée, prunes and toasted almonds define its flavour.
• Finish: The finish is warm, combining sherry notes with spices and light vanilla.

Distillery/Bottler:

Distillerie Warenghem was founded in Lannion in 1900 and remained under the management of two families for more than a century. Gilles Leizour initiated the move into whisky production in 1983. The WB blend appeared in 1987, followed in 1998 by Armorik, the first Breton and French single malt. The independent distillery stands on Brittany’s northern coast, where an oceanic climate with relatively steady temperatures accompanies cask maturation.

For Armorik, Warenghem uses French organic malted barley and spring water from the granite beneath the distillery. Production involves two dry yeasts and slow double distillation, with each run lasting six to seven hours. The copper pot stills, with capacities of 5,000 and 3500 litres, were made by Prulho, a still manufacturer in Charente. Cellar master Erwan Lefebvre, a trained oenologist, oversees maturation in three warehouses. The Armorik range has been certified organic since 2021.
