Special Features:

For this Rare Batch, Lochranza Distillery used barley malt peated to 20 ppm. The whisky spent all 15 years of its maturation in former Oloroso sherry butts from Jerez. The combination of sherry casks and peated malt gives it a sweet, spicy and distinctly smoky character.

The worldwide release comprises 4,024 bottles of 0.7 litres each. The whisky was bottled at 54.4%, without colouring or chill filtration, and comes in a tube. Alongside citrus, brown sugar, oak and campfire smoke are dark fruits and hints of clove and cinnamon.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, citrus fruit and brown sugar meet oak and dry campfire smoke.
• Palate: The whisky feels soft and rich on the palate. Oak comes to the fore, accompanied by sweet citrus fruit and a trace of spice.
• Finish: The long finish is led by oak. Initial sweetness gives way to lingering dry smoke; a little water brings out red fruits.

Distillery/Bottler:

Lochranza Distillery has made whisky in the north of the Isle of Arran since 1995. Fresh water from Loch na Davie played a part in the choice of site. The distillery belongs to the independent company Isle of Arran Distillers, which opened a second distillery, Lagg, in the south of the island in 2019. Lagg focuses on peated single malt; this Rare Batch, by contrast, comes from Lochranza and is an official bottling.
