Finishing in Sauternes white-wine casks from Bordeaux gives this Arran its sweet, fruity character. Before that, the unpeated single malt matures for eight years in traditional oak casks. Distillery manager Stewart Bowman selects the wine casks from a small French producer so their influence complements the whisky’s fresh fruit character. Apricot, honeyed melon, honeysuckle and soft vanilla make that combination particularly clear.
The whisky is offered at 50% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle with a tube. It is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

The independent Isle of Arran Distillers Ltd began production in 1995 at Lochranza, in the north of the Isle of Arran. Water from Loch na Davie supplies the distillery. The team ferments the wort in wooden vessels, distils it twice and sets the cut points by smell and visual assessment. The casks are stored on the island. The unpeated malt in this distillery bottling comes from Lochranza, while distillery manager Stewart Bowman is responsible for selecting the Sauternes casks.
