Arran Sherry Cask – The Bodega is a single malt matured entirely in sherry casks and bottled at cask strength at 55.8%. It recalls the early Arran whiskies with their pronounced sherry character. Maturation takes place in selected casks from sherry bodegas in Jerez, Spain. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Sherry cask maturation brings dark fruit, sweet spices, roasted nuts and oak together with Arran’s fresh, lively character. The Bodega is among the most aromatically intense bottlings in the core range and is offered at a higher alcohol strength than many other Arran whiskies. It can be enjoyed neat or with a little water; tasting it alongside Arran Quarter Cask allows a comparison of their different cask influences.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, chocolate raisins and mandarins combine with a hint of spice.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky has a dense mouthfeel and warm notes of ripe figs and sweet cherries.
• Finish: The finish is long and powerful, with nuances of pink pepper, hazelnuts and toasted oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

Lochranza Distillery on the Isle of Arran produces the single malt for the Arran brand. The Bodega is an official bottling in its core range. Alongside Lochranza, Isle of Arran Distillers also operates Lagg distillery in the south of the island, which opened in 2019.

The water for Arran Single Malts comes from Loch na Davie and flows over six small mountain waterfalls on its way to the distillery. This watercourse inspired the wave-shaped decorations on the shoulder and base of the Arran bottles introduced in 2019. The eagles on the packaging also have a direct connection to the location: their breeding season caused construction work at the distillery to be suspended in 1994.
