Astral Blanco Tequila

Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 38% | Chill filtration: Yes | Colouring: No

Special Features:

Astral Blanco uses more than just the juice of the agave: its fibres are also used in fermentation. The starting ingredient is 100% blue Weber agave from Jalisco. After cooking in brick ovens, the agaves are crushed by a tahona, a heavy stone wheel that releases the juice from their fibres. Some of these fibres, also known as bagazo, then enter fermentation. This allows Astral to use more of the agave plant and helps bring out its distinctive character in the finished tequila. After fermentation, the spirit is distilled twice in copper pot stills.

Citrus freshness, clover honey, white pepper and tropical fruit notes shape this smooth blanco. It is suitable both for drinking over ice and for cocktails such as the Margarita and Paloma. This bottling contains 0.7 litres and has an alcohol content of 38%.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Lime and grapefruit lead on the nose. Cooked agave adds sweetness and a slightly herbal impression to the fresh citrus notes.
• Palate: On the palate, lively citrus fruit combines with the natural sweetness of agave.
• Finish: The finish reveals a spicy note of black pepper.

Distillery/Bottler:

Astral Tequila is part of Diageo's brand portfolio and is produced in the Mexican state of Jalisco. The brand's production methods include processing with a tahona, fermentation with agave fibres and double distillation in copper pot stills. The sun and stars inspire the brand's imagery, reflecting the conditions in which the agaves grow: warm days and cooler nights.

Through the Adobe Brick Project, Astral also puts residues from distillation to further use. Together with Green Loop, spent agave fibres are combined with earth and liquid distillation residues to make adobe bricks, which dry in the sun. In collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Mexico, these bricks are used to build homes in Jalisco. The project links the reuse of production residues with tangible building projects for the local population.
