Special Features:

A single first-fill Oloroso sherry butt gives this whisky its pronounced sherry character. Distilled at Auchentoshan in 1999, the single malt matured for 24 years before Signatory Vintage bottled the whisky from cask No. 4 for Symington's Choice in April 2024. The cask yielded 689 numbered bottles.

The whisky is bottled at 55.6% cask strength without chill filtration or added colouring, in a 0.7-litre bottle supplied in a metal tube. Its character brings together dried fruit and dark chocolate with sweetness, spice and oak.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers dark chocolate, figs and dates alongside toffee and roasted nuts. Coffee, orange peel, cinnamon and polished oak complete the aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is full-bodied and creamy. Sultanas and prunes meet malt, caramel, dark sugar syrup and a hint of molasses; nutmeg, cloves, a little black pepper and oak provide structure.
• Finish: The finish is long and warming. Sweetness and spice linger with dark chocolate, dried-fruit compote and gentle oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

Auchentoshan is located near Glasgow in the Scottish Lowlands and triple-distils its single malt. The distillery uses unpeated barley malt; during the third distillation, the spirit reaches an alcohol strength of about 81%. This is the background to the Auchentoshan spirit, while the Oloroso sherry butt shapes the cask character of this particular bottling.

Signatory Vintage is the independent bottler of this whisky. Andrew Symington founded the company with his brother in 1988. Signatory later moved its operations to the site of the Edradour distillery in Pitlochry and built its own cask warehouses there. Andrew Symington selects individual casks for Symington's Choice.
