BACARDÍ Reserva Ocho traces its origins to the family's private rum reserve. The recipe dates back to 1862 and brings together selected aged rums in a blend. The eight-year age statement refers to the youngest rum in the blend; older components may also be included.

The casks and their degree of charring are specifically selected for Reserva Ocho. Ageing under the Caribbean sun develops a smooth, layered character with dried fruit, vanilla and oak. Nutmeg and butterscotch complement the flavour profile alongside a delicate fig note and baking spices.

The rum can be enjoyed neat or over ice, and also works in an Old Fashioned, Rum Negroni or Old Cuban. The bottle contains 0.7 litres at 40% alcohol.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals dried apricots and notes of banana leaves.
• Palate: Oak and spice take the lead on the palate.
• Finish: The finish is broad and rounded. It lingers for a medium length with a tingling sensation, leaving vanilla crème brûlée, caramel and coconut blossom sugar alongside a hint of cinnamon.

Distillery/Bottler:

The history of BACARDÍ began in 1862 with Don Facundo Bacardí Massó. Today, Bacardi Corporation produces Reserva Ocho in Cataño, Puerto Rico. For the Reserva range, BACARDÍ uses molasses, purified water and its own yeast strain, La Levadura BACARDÍ.

The Maestros de Ron blend the aged rums to achieve the desired flavour profile. Charcoal filtration is also part of the process, with different charcoal blends used depending on the rum. Reserva Ocho is therefore not simply a longer-aged Carta Blanca, but is based on its own selection and blending of rum components.
