American Oak is defined by its two-stage maturation: the Cognac first spends several years in French oak casks from Limousin, followed by at least six months in new American oak casks made from Quercus alba. The French oak contributes vanilla and cocoa notes, while the American oak gives the Cognac a pronounced aromatic character. Coconut and pineapple add a tropical fruit dimension to these sweet impressions.

American Oak was introduced in 2016. Bache-Gabrielsen uses the Ugni-Blanc grape variety for this Cognac, which originates in the Fins Bois Cognac-growing area. The miniature contains 0.05 litres at 40% alcohol, with no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The Cognac is fresh and fruity on the nose. Citrus notes meet a light touch of vanilla.
• Palate: Sweet caramel notes mingle with nutty impressions on the palate. The aromatic power of American oak combines with a supple mouthfeel.
• Finish: The finish is long, warm and gentle. Fruity and sweet impressions linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bache-Gabrielsen has roots in Norway and the French Charente region. Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen arrived in Cognac in 1903 and, together with his Norwegian friend Peter Rustad, took over the Cognac house A. Edmond Dupuy in 1905. Founded in 1852, the house became the family business Bache-Gabrielsen, whose management passed to the fourth generation with Hervé Bache-Gabrielsen in 2009.

Cellar master Jean-Philippe Bergier has been responsible for selecting the eaux-de-vie, overseeing their cask maturation and composing the blends since 1989. He comes from a family of winegrowers and distillers in Petite Champagne. Since 2015, the house has had two storage cellars and a further cellar for blending in Louzac-Saint-André, a few kilometres from Cognac. This puts the storage and maturation of the eaux-de-vie entirely under its own control.
