Special Features:

Golden Cask combines twelve years of maturation in ex-bourbon casks with a specially prepared rum-cask finish. Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie had the finishing casks seasoned with a custom blend of rums matured in the Caribbean and Scotland before the single malt was finished in them. Released in November 2024 for international travel retail, it forms part of Balvenie’s Cask Finishes range.

The second maturation stage adds tropical fruit, banana and pecan pastries to the Speyside malt’s honey and vanilla notes. Toffee, dried fruit and oak spice bring further dimensions without obscuring its malty character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals ripe banana and vanilla, accompanied by toffee-coated peanut brittle.
• Palate: On the palate, dried fruit, malted barley and toffee combine with oak spice.
• Finish: The long, soft finish brings honey together with dried mango and apricot, then becomes drier with a hint of toasted oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

William Grant built The Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown in 1892, and distillation began there in 1893. The distillery still operates its own floor maltings, where some of its barley is turned by hand. Coopers prepare and maintain casks on site, while a coppersmith looks after the copper stills. The Balvenie belongs to William Grant & Sons. For Golden Cask, Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie oversaw the distinctive seasoning of the finishing casks with the rum blend.
