Balvenie 15 yo Madeira Cask

Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 43% | Chill filtration: Yes | Colouring: No

Special Features:

The Madeira finish gives this 15-year-old single malt its fruit-led character. The whisky first matured in American oak casks, then in casks that had previously held Madeira. Dark berries, ginger spice, peach, orange and hazelnut join the honey and vanilla notes from its initial maturation. The edition was introduced for the travel-retail market in 2022. It is bottled at 43% ABV in a 0.7-litre bottle presented in a tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Blackcurrants and blackberries appear on the nose alongside ginger syrup and delicate spice. Honey, raisins, figs, dates, peach, orange peel and hazelnut follow.
• Palate: Ripe peach and orange meet hazelnut and a pronounced oak note on the palate. Caramel, vanilla and spices complement the fruity sweetness.
• Finish: The long, warm finish combines lingering fruity sweetness, red apple, spices and delicate oak; it remains sweet despite a touch of dryness.

Distillery/Bottler:

William Grant built Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown in 1892, and whisky production began there in 1893. The distillery still maintains its own malting floors and employs coopers and coppersmiths on site. Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE created the Madeira Cask as part of the Cask Finishes range. The Balvenie belongs to the family-run William Grant & Sons, and this whisky is an official bottling.
