Rare Marriages 25 brings together whiskies matured for at least 25 years in selected European and American oak casks. Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE then married them in traditional large oak vats. Autumn fruits and honey mingle with pronounced vanilla, oak spice and pastry-like sweetness.

The single malt is bottled at 48% alcohol without chill filtration or added colouring. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in a premium box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, gentle autumn fruits mingle with liquid honey, candied ginger and raw cane sugar. A pronounced oak note lends depth and structure to the aroma.
• Palate: Pronounced vanilla and oak notes emerge first on the palate. They slowly fade, making room for toasted marshmallow, fresh fruit terrine and cinnamon apple pie.
• Finish: A lingering sweetness remains through the exceptionally long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown belongs to William Grant & Sons. William Grant built the distillery beside Glenfiddich in Speyside, and distillation began there in 1893. Rare Marriages was developed under long-serving Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE, who began working at The Balvenie in 1962.

The distillery preserves five traditional crafts: growing its own barley, floor malting, coopering, coppersmithing and cask selection by the Malt Master. It grows and malts some of its barley itself. On the malting floor, the soaked grain is turned by hand. The on-site coopers prepare and maintain the casks, while the coppersmith looks after the stills. The Malt Master assesses cask samples for balance and consistency of character and decides which whiskies are suitable for bottling.
