Special Features:

The five-star Réserve Spéciale is made from pure sugarcane juice and matures for eight years in French Limousin oak casks. Barbancourt thus brings together a Haitian raw material and a maturation tradition whose French roots are part of the company's history. The sugarcane juice ferments for three days before distillation.

Creamy sweetness, fruit and peppery spice characterise this bottling. It can be enjoyed neat or in cocktails, such as a Zombie with white rum and fruit juices. Réserve Spéciale is bottled at 43% alcohol and comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres, with gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, crème brûlée and creamy vanilla meet milk chocolate and almonds. Roasted notes and toasted wood add to the bouquet, while pepper lends a lightly spicy accent.
• Palate: The palate combines nutty nougat, apricot and fruity sugarcane notes. An impression of melting vanilla ice cream complements these flavours.
• Finish: Honey and white pepper linger on the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Dupré Barbancourt founded the company in Haiti in 1862. Originally from France's Charente region, he applied two principles of Cognac production to rum: double distillation and maturation in Limousin oak. Société du Rhum Barbancourt S.A. is based in Damien, in the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac near Port-au-Prince.

Rum-making knowledge has been passed down through several generations of the Gardère family. Barbancourt's sugarcane juice is made using varieties that include the Haitian Madame Mevs sugarcane. The combination of local sugarcane and French-influenced production is therefore not only part of the company's history, but also the foundation of Réserve Spéciale.
