Belsazar Rosé brings together a Pinot Noir blend and raspberry brandy in a fruity, sweet wine aperitif with a bitter counterpoint. It contains 14.5% alcohol and comes in a 0.75-litre bottle.

Pink grapefruit, orange blossom and berries shape its character, with bitter orange adding another aromatic dimension. Fruit acidity and bittersweet notes balance the fruity side. It can be enjoyed neat or served as an aperitif with tonic water and a grapefruit wedge.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, raspberries meet pink grapefruit and orange blossom. Light herbal notes complement the aromas.
• Palate: On the palate, pink grapefruit and orange blossom combine with raspberries and currants. Pleasant fruit acidity accompanies the fruit, while a light bitter note adds a contrasting edge.
• Finish: The finish is pleasantly bittersweet.

Distillery/Bottler:

Maximilian Wagner and Sebastian Brack founded Belsazar with the idea of creating a modern German vermouth. The brand combines its Berlin origins with production in the Breisgau region. Its wine base uses selected growers’ wines from the Kaiserstuhl and Markgräflerland, while fruit brandies from the Schladerer family complement the recipes.

To make Belsazar vermouths, herbs, spices, flowers and peels are macerated in large glass demijohns, allowing their aromas to pass into the liquid. Wormwood is one of the key ingredients. Grape must fortified with brandy provides sweetness. Once the ingredients have been combined, the vermouth rests and matures for up to three months in flavour-neutral casks that add no further woody notes.
