For this six-year-old Ben Nevis, The Single Malts of Scotland brought together just four casks in a small batch: first-fill bourbon barrels and second-fill sherry butts. The whisky was distilled in 2019 and bottled in 2025 at 48%. It is heavily peated, non-chill filtered and has no added colouring.

Its profile combines bold smoke with malty sweetness, caramel, vanilla and dried fruit. Mineral spice, gentle sherry sweetness and spicy oak provide structure, while coffee and dark chocolate define the slightly bitter finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals pronounced malt notes with caramel, vanilla and dried fruit, rounded out by delicate mineral and spicy nuances.
• Palate: The palate delivers bold smoke alongside intense malt and fruit notes, complemented by spicy oak and gentle sherry sweetness.
• Finish: The finish is medium to long. Malty and spicy impressions persist, accompanied by a slight bitterness reminiscent of coffee and dark chocolate.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Ben Nevis Distillery was founded by John MacDonald in 1825 and operates in Fort William at the foot of Ben Nevis. It has belonged to Nikka Whisky since 1989. The distillery supplied the heavily peated Highland single malt used for this bottling.

The Single Malts of Scotland traces its origins to Sukhinder Singh's first cask bottling in 2002 and is a core brand of Elixir Distillers. As an independent bottler, Elixir Distillers evaluates casks from Scottish distilleries and releases selected whiskies as single-cask or small-batch bottlings. Four casks were combined for this small batch.
