Special Features:

This Benriach single malt matured in a refill hogshead that had previously been used to mature whisky. Distilled on 11 May 2007, the 17-year-old whisky was bottled by Thompson Bros. in October 2024 at 47.3%, yielding 296 bottles. It is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Its fruity, spicy aromas bring together dried apricot and fresh lime with honey and ginger. Green grapes, yellow plums and honeyed malt shape the palate, while a slightly wild note and a salty finish add a character of their own.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers dried apricots, fresh lime, honey and ginger, followed by a vegetal hint reminiscent of cachaça and a slightly tart fruit-gum note.
• Palate: On the palate, honeyed malt and stone fruit mingle with green grapes, yellow plums and white pepper.
• Finish: The finish remains salty and slightly wild, with these impressions lingering distinctly.

Distillery/Bottler:

John Duff founded Benriach in 1898 near the old Riach Farm in northern Speyside. The distillery closed as early as 1900, but its floor maltings continued to operate and supplied the neighbouring Longmorn distillery. Benriach did not resume whisky production until 1965. Today, it produces peated and triple-distilled whisky alongside its classic style. It has belonged to Brown-Forman since 2016.

Phil and Simon Thompson of Dornoch are behind Thompson Bros. Their work with the whisky bar at Dornoch Castle Hotel developed into independent bottling. Under the Thompson Bros. name, they select casks, mature whisky and bottle it from individual casks or in small batches. This single malt comes from Benriach; Thompson Bros. handled its independent bottling.
