For The Twenty Five, peated and unpeated Benriach spirit matured for at least 25 years in sherry casks, bourbon casks, virgin oak casks and Madeira casks. The matured whiskies are then married to create this Speyside single malt.

Over its long maturation, Benriach’s sweet smoke softens and mingles with fruit, honeyed malt and toasted oak spice. The Madeira casks contribute notes of orange and baking spice, while dark fruit, nuts and toffee add further layers. The smoke remains gentle and lingers with a caramelised note.

The whisky draws its colour from the casks, contains no added colouring and is not chill-filtered. It is offered at 46% in a 0.7-litre bottle with a premium box.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, smoked apricot meets dark chocolate with cherries and hazelnut toffee.
• Palate: On the palate, baked fruit meets toasted oak spice, orange and cinnamon.
• Finish: The finish is long and rich, with caramelised smoke lingering.

Distillery/Bottler:

John Duff founded Benriach in 1898 on the site of the old Riach farm in northern Speyside. After the distillery closed in 1900, its malting floors remained in use; Benriach resumed distilling its own whisky in 1965. Alongside unpeated spirit, the distillery has produced peated spirit since the early 1970s. Both styles feature in The Twenty Five.

Benriach uses four additions of water during mashing and distils slowly to produce a fruit-forward spirit. The distillery matures whisky made in different distillation styles across a wide range of cask types. For The Twenty Five, Master Blender Rachel Barrie marries whiskies matured in four cask groups. Brown-Forman acquired the BenRiach Distillery Company, including the distillery and its brand rights, in 2016. The Twenty Five is an official Benriach bottling.
