For The Single Malts of Scotland's Director's Special series, Elixir Distillers selected a single cask of 34-year-old Benriach single malt and bottled 164 bottles of whisky at 46.7%. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Its profile combines mango, apricot and honey with vanilla, almond, orange and baking spices. Polished oak leads into a long, creamy finish with soft fruit and tobacco.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines ripe mango, apricot and honey with vanilla, almond, delicate floral notes, gentle spices and polished oak.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky unfolds with orchard fruit and dried apricot, accompanied by crème brûlée, orange, baking spices and mature oak.
• Finish: The long finish combines vanilla cream and soft fruit with tobacco, spices and dry oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

John Duff founded Benriach in 1898 on the site of the old Riach Farm in northern Speyside. After the distillery closed in 1900, its traditional floor maltings remained in operation until 1999; Benriach resumed whisky production in 1965. Today, the distillery works with unpeated, peated and triple-distilled spirit, as well as a diverse selection of cask types.

The Single Malts of Scotland is a bottling brand owned by Elixir Distillers. Since 2005, the company has bottled selected single casks under this name without chill filtration or added colouring. For this Director's Special release, Elixir Distillers selected a cask of 34-year-old Benriach and independently bottled the whisky matured in it.
