Special Features:

Small Batch No. 1 brings together several Hogshead casks of Benrinnes distilled in 2010. The whisky matured for thirteen years before Berry Bros. & Rudd bottled it in 2023. This small batch combines fruity, honeyed notes with the distillery’s savoury character; it is not a single-cask bottling.

The release comprises 1,067 bottles. This non-smoky single malt was bottled at 46%, without chill filtration or added colouring. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, honey and fresh hay mingle with a warm floral scent. Citrus fruit and green Granny Smith apples add to the aromas.
  • Palate: The whisky feels soft on the palate. Fruity notes and the sweetness of golden syrup sit alongside savoury, meaty spice.
  • Finish: Fruity and floral notes linger through the medium-length finish, joined by a savoury note reminiscent of soup seasoning.

Distillery/Bottler:

Benrinnes stands at the foot of Ben Rinnes in Scotland’s Speyside region. Founded in 1826, the distillery was destroyed by flooding in 1829 and subsequently rebuilt at a different site. It condenses the vapour from distillation in worm tubs: coiled copper pipes immersed in water tanks, where the vapour turns back into liquid. This traditional cooling method contributes to the distillery’s heavy, savoury character. Benrinnes single malts are particularly often found among independent bottlings.

Berry Bros. & Rudd is a family-run London wine and spirits merchant with roots dating back to 1698. It began as the grocer’s shop of the widow Bourne, opposite St. James’s Palace. Under George Berry, the business increasingly focused on wine and spirits during the 19th century; Hugh Rudd joined in 1920. Its whisky history also stretches back a long way: Cutty Sark was created there in 1923. The shop at 3 St James’s Street remains part of the company’s story today. For this Benrinnes, Berry Bros. & Rudd acts as the independent bottler.
