This 19-year-old Galloway Edition from Bladnoch owes its character to full maturation in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Rather than simply receiving a sherry finish, this Lowland single malt spent all 19 years of its maturation in PX casks. The Galloway Collection uses first-fill casks, with Master Distiller Dr Nick Savage selecting the individual casks for this whisky. This official distillery bottling comes at 46.7% in a bottle containing 0.7 litres and is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Liquorice and dried apricots shape the sherry profile, while aged oak and floral notes add further accents. Almonds and nutmeg complement the fruit with nutty spice. Sweetness and dryness sit alongside one another in the long finish.

• Palate: On the palate, liquorice and dried apricots combine with almonds and nutmeg.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bladnoch produces this Lowland single malt and releases it as an official distillery bottling. The whisky dates from before David Prior’s acquisition of the distillery in 2015; the later cask selection is overseen by Master Distiller Dr Nick Savage, who has worked at Bladnoch since 2019.

Brothers John and Thomas McClelland founded Bladnoch on their farm in the Scottish Lowlands in 1817. The River Bladnoch runs beside the distillery and supplies water for whisky production. Bladnoch is Scotland’s southernmost distillery. Following David Prior’s purchase in 2015, the facilities underwent extensive refurbishment under Ian MacMillan’s direction; production resumed in 2017. This marked a new chapter for the independently run Lowland distillery.
