Special Features:
Vinaya from Bladnoch's Bold Collection brings together whisky produced before the distillery's closure and whisky made after production resumed in 2017. The composition matures in first-fill bourbon and first-fill sherry casks; this variant uses Oloroso sherry casks. Derived from Sanskrit, the name Vinaya means respect and gratitude. The single malt is bottled at 43.4%.
The combination of casks creates a bright, fresh Lowland profile: floral and grassy impressions meet green apple, while chocolate and pepper add darker, spicy accents. The fresh overall character is more prominent than a heavy sherry influence. The whisky retains its natural colour and is not chill-filtered.
Tasting Notes:
Distillery/Bottler:
Bladnoch Distillery produces and bottles Vinaya as its own Lowland expression. David Prior acquired the distillery in 2015; following a two-year renovation, production resumed in 2017.
Founded in 1817, the distillery stands on the River Bladnoch in the Scottish Lowlands and is Scotland's southernmost distillery. By combining older stocks with whisky from the resumed production, Vinaya brings together two periods in the distillery's history.
