Blair Athol 2013/2025 - 11 y.o. - 2nd fill ex-Caol Ila Cask #310727 (Best Dram)
Special features: This limited release from Best Dram combines the characteristics of the Blair Athol distillery with the smoky influences of a former Caol Ila cask. After 11 years of maturation in a 2nd fill ex-Caol Ila Hogshead, this single malt is presented at natural cask strength and without the addition of colorants. The edition is limited to 318 bottles.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Aromas of oatmeal, accompanied by a subtle smoky note and caramelized apple. A hint of butter cake and lemon zest rounds off the bouquet.
Palate: Strong entry with a creamy, almost viscous mouthfeel. The peat smoke is more pronounced than on the nose and presents itself as vanilla-sweet. Notes of butter cake and slightly tannic impressions complement the tasting experience, while the fruity notes from the nose recede into the background.
Finish: Long-lasting, transitioning from sweet to spicy to peaty nuances.
Distillery/Bottler: The Blair Athol distillery, founded in 1798, is located in Pitlochry, Perthshire, Scotland. It is known for its spicy and nutty single malts, which are often matured in sherry casks. Best Dram is an independent bottler known for its careful selection and bottling of single malts.
