Special Features:

A finish in Ruby Port casks gives this 16-year-old Global Travel Retail release its dark-fruit character. Before that, the single malt matures in American oak ex-bourbon casks and European oak sherry casks. The Port casks come from the Douro Valley.

Blackcurrant and ripe fruit sit alongside leather, fennel and ginger. Chocolate fudge, Demerara sugar, salted walnut and oak notes complement the smoke of campfire embers. The whisky is bottled at 43% in a 0.7-litre bottle. It contains colouring and is chill-filtered.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, leather and blackcurrant mingle with fennel seeds, a hint of ginger and the embers of a campfire.
• Palate: On the palate, soft chocolate fudge and Demerara sugar meet salted walnuts and oak notes.
• Finish: Gentle, sweet smoke lingers on the palate through the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bowmore Distillery makes and bottles this Islay single malt. The distillery has operated beside Loch Indaal since 1779. It still malts some of its barley on its own malting floors, turning it by hand. Peat smoke during kilning contributes to the characteristic style of its whiskies.

Bowmore matures whisky in the historic No. 1 Vaults on the shore of Loch Indaal. Suntory Global Spirits Inc. owns the Bowmore brand.
