Released in 2023, the third Bowmore Aston Martin Masters’ Selection is a 22-year-old Islay single malt bottled at 51% ABV. The whisky matured in European oak casks that previously held Oloroso sherry and in American oak hogsheads. The two cask types give this release fruity, spicy depth without obscuring its peat smoke.

Lemon zest, poached peach and vanilla open the nose. Dark sugar syrup, salted caramel, old oak, roasted chestnuts and soft leather follow. On the palate, sherry and nut notes mingle with cocoa, raisins, muscovado sugar, red berries and peat smoke. The whisky comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with lemon zest, poached peach and vanilla, followed by dark sugar syrup, salted caramel, old oak, roasted chestnuts and soft leather.
• Palate: Sherry and nut notes meet cocoa beans, raisins, muscovado sugar and red berries on the palate; a layer of peat smoke adds to the bold flavour.
• Finish: The long, sweet finish leaves lingering oak spice and sea salt.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bowmore has made single malt on the coast of Islay since 1779. The distillery still turns some of its barley on its own malting floors and exposes it to peat smoke during kilning. Fermentation takes place in six Oregon pine washbacks. Four stills produce the spirit, and the middle cut is selected for cask maturation.

Masters’ Selection Edition 3 grew out of a collaboration between Bowmore Master Blender Ron Welsh and Aston Martin Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman. For this release, Bowmore brings together two styles of oak and maturation. The whisky matured in the selected casks and was bottled by the distillery.
