Braeval was founded in 1973 under the name Braes of Glenlivet and belongs to Chivas Brothers. The Speyside distillery stands around 350 metres above sea level and operates two wash stills and four spirit stills. Most of its malt whisky goes into blends such as Ballantine's and Chivas Regal. Single-cask bottlings like this one also make it available as a single malt in its own right.
Murray McDavid is the independent bottler behind this edition. The company was founded in early 1994 by London wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin, together with Gordon Wright of Springbank. The founders drew on their wine experience to give whisky further maturation in selected wine casks as well. Today, the former Coleburn Distillery in Speyside is the bottler's home. Selecting different casks and using them purposefully for further maturation remain central to its work.
