The Bud Spencer The Legend Tasting Box brings together two contrasting whiskies and a spiced liqueur. The gift box contains 0.05 litres each of mild whisky at 46%, smoky whisky at 49%, and Feuerwasser, a cinnamon liqueur with chilli, at 33%. It offers a direct comparison between the range’s fruity sweetness, smoke and warming spice.

The mild whisky combines St. Kilian whisky with triple-distilled Irish Whiskey from bourbon casks at Great Northern Distillery; notes from Amarone casks shape its fruity character. For the smoky version, St. Kilian uses peated barley malt from the Scottish Highlands and whisky from Amarone and bourbon casks. Feuerwasser is based on St. Kilian Single Malt Spirit and flavoured with cinnamon and chilli.

Vanilla, toffee, fruit and oak spice define the mild whisky. In the second whisky, smoke and spice meet sweet fruit notes; the liqueur adds a distinct accent of cinnamon and warming chilli.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The mild whisky has aromas of vanilla, honey and toffee, as well as peach, cherry and raspberry; floral notes, oak spice and a little white pepper complement the fruit. The smoky whisky opens with bold, ashy smoke and spice before red grapes, banana, vanilla and toffee emerge. Feuerwasser smells of cinnamon and vanilla sugar, accompanied by chilli, cardamom, baked apple, raisins and a hint of clove.
• Palate: The mild whisky opens warmly on the palate with spiced oak and toffee, followed by creamy peach-and-cherry jam, honey, red grapes and a little tannin. In the smoky whisky, initial sweetness accompanies bold smoke and light caramel, followed by peppery spice and dry notes. Feuerwasser combines vanilla cream with cinnamon and warming chilli, alongside an increasingly oily texture, orange and cardamom.
• Finish: The mild whisky has a medium-length, creamy and spicy finish with red fruit preserve, honey, brittle and a little dry oak. The smoky whisky leaves a long, full-bodied aftertaste of spice and smoke. Feuerwasser finishes sweet and warming, with lingering chilli, clove and cardamom, dry cinnamon and a hint of tobacco leaf.

Distillery/Bottler:

St. Kilian Distillers is based in Rüdenau in Lower Franconia. In 2012, Andreas Thümmler and David F. Hynes developed the plan for a distillery inspired by Scottish and Irish models; its two copper stills produced their first spirit in 2016. Alongside whisky, St. Kilian makes liqueurs based on its malt spirit. The Bud Spencer range grew out of a licensing partnership centred on the film actor’s persona.
