Bud Spencer The Legend Whisky - Mild (Spencerhilldrinks) is an unpeated blended whisky developed for St. Kilian by Master Distillers Mario Rudolf and David F. Hynes. The composition combines Amarone cask notes with triple-distilled Irish whiskey from the Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, matured in former American bourbon casks. It is bottled at 46% in a 0.7-litre bottle, without added colouring or chill filtration.

This bottling continues the licensing partnership centred on Bud Spencer that began in 2020. His real name was Carlo Pedersoli; his Italian heritage and the Italian Westerns of his film career provide a fitting connection to the whisky’s Amarone cask notes.

Creamy, sweet impressions of vanilla, honey and toffee meet peach, cherry, raspberry and red grape. Oak spice, white pepper and tannins provide a drier, spicy counterpoint, while the medium-length finish fades with red fruit, honey and nut brittle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, creamy vanilla, sweet honey and toffee mingle with ripe peaches, red cherries and raspberries. Floral nuances, delicate oak spice and a pinch of white pepper complement the fruit bouquet.
• Palate: The whisky is intense and warming on the palate. Spicy oak and toffee give way to a creamy peach and cherry preserve, while honey, red grapes and a hint of tannin accompany the gentle sweetness.
• Finish: The medium-length finish combines red fruit preserve, honey and delicate nut brittle with creamy spice and a touch of dry oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

St. Kilian Distillers in Rüdenau is responsible for the composition and official bottling. For this blend, Mario Rudolf and Irish whisky expert David F. Hynes worked with triple-distilled whiskey from the Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk. The German producer’s connection with Irish whisky expertise dates back to the distillery’s beginnings.

Founder Andreas Thümmler acquired the site of a former textile factory in his home village of Rüdenau and, together with David F. Hynes, developed the idea of establishing a whisky distillery there. St. Kilian Distillers was founded in 2012, and its own spirit flowed through the stills for the first time on St. Patrick’s Day in 2016.

For its own single malt production, St. Kilian uses two 6,000-litre copper pot stills made by Forsyths in Scotland’s Speyside region. Hynes designed their geometry with an upward-sloping lyne arm; the resulting increase in reflux helps create a light, fruity spirit character. An additional reflux condenser in the spirit still makes it possible to increase this reflux selectively.
