This eleven-year-old Bunnahabhain from Gordon & MacPhail’s Discovery range showcases the sherry-cask side of the Islay distillery. The expression was bottled in 2019 at 43%. Its soft, creamy profile combines dark fruit, nuts and spices without peat smoke.

Orange marmalade and dried fruit meet vanilla and toffee. Dates, plums and cinnamon follow, while walnut and milk chocolate shape the rounded finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals orange marmalade, dried fruit, vanilla and toffee, accompanied by delicate spices.
• Palate: The whisky feels creamy on the palate, combining cinnamon with dates and stewed plums.
• Finish: The finish is rounded and nutty, with walnut and milk chocolate accompanying the lingering fruit sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bunnahabhain produced the Islay single malt. Gordon & MacPhail selected the sherry casks, oversaw the whisky’s maturation in them and bottled it as an independent bottler for the Discovery range. Discovery groups single malts into three profiles: Sherry, Smoky and Bourbon. With its sherry-cask maturation, this expression belongs to the Sherry profile.

Bunnahabhain’s house style, cultivated since 1881, is predominantly unpeated, combining robust, complex and oily qualities with sweet fruit, wood spices and maritime influence. Gordon & MacPhail began in Elgin in 1895, where the Urquhart family shaped the selection and purchase of distillates as well as their allocation to casks and maturation.
