Bunnahabhain An Cladach is part of the travel-retail-exclusive Uncharted Coast Collection. Its Scottish Gaelic name means “the coast”, reflecting the maritime character of this unpeated Islay single malt. The whisky matures in Oloroso sherry and bourbon casks. The sherry casks contribute dried fruit, gentle spice and nutty depth, while the bourbon casks bring creamy vanilla, mild oak and a touch of sweetness. Salty coastal notes complement the cask flavours.

The whisky has no age statement and is bottled at 50% ABV in a 1-litre bottle with a tube. It is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring. Its natural colour is therefore preserved, while the absence of chill filtration helps retain its creamy mouthfeel. Gentle hints of malt, citrus and honey accompany the sherry and bourbon notes.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dried fruit, caramel and vanilla mingle with rich sherry notes.
• Palate: The whisky feels creamy and soft on the palate, where sherry, nuts and spice meet salty coastal notes.
• Finish: The long finish carries rich dried-fruit notes and ends cleanly with maritime hints.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Bunnahabhain Distillery was founded in 1881 by William Robertson and the brothers William and James Greenlees on Islay’s remote north-east coast; production began in 1883. The distillery and its settlement were established together, including roads and houses for employees. Bunnahabhain is especially known for unpeated single malt. The distillery uses water from the Margadale spring. Its tall stills with long swan necks encourage a lighter spirit character. An Cladach is bottled by the distillery itself.
