Its production water comes from Saint Columb's Rill, a tributary of the River Bush. For its single malts, the distillery uses only malted barley and triple-distils in copper pot stills.
Distillation, maturation, marrying and bottling all take place at the same Bushmills site. Its historical connection with whiskey production dates back to the regional distilling licence granted by King James I to Sir Thomas Phillipps in 1608. Following a devastating fire in 1885, the Old Bushmills Distillery was rebuilt.
