Widow's Cove belongs to Batch 4 of the WhiskyHeroes series from Brave New Spirits. Distilled in 2014, the Caol Ila was finished in first-fill Fino sherry hogshead No. 22052002 after its primary maturation. Following eleven years of maturation in total, the whisky was bottled at 50.4%, yielding 380 bottles.

The Fino finish complements the pronounced Islay smoke with dry sherry notes and nutty accents. Heather honey, herbs and gently sweet peat contrast with an earthy dryness, while maritime freshness, salt and fine ash broaden the profile. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines maritime smoke, salty sea air and fine ash with dry sherry notes, almonds, green apples and citrus fruit.
• Palate: The whisky is balanced and powerful on the palate: smoky peat and salty freshness meet dry sherry notes, nuts, light-coloured fruit and gentle spice.
• Finish: The finish is medium to long, dry and smoky, with lingering nutty notes, maritime freshness and subtle oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

Caol Ila Distillery was founded in 1846 in the north-east of Islay. When the distillery was rebuilt in the early 1970s, its six stills were reproduced according to the previous design. Water from Loch nam Ban and barley malted in Port Ellen are among the foundations of its production.

Caol Ila distilled this single malt in 2014. Brave New Spirits selected it for Batch 4 of the WhiskyHeroes series; the whisky was finished in a first-fill Fino sherry hogshead and bottled after a total of eleven years, yielding 380 bottles. For the series, the small team hand-selects distinctive single casks and small batches, creating names and comic-style labels that reflect the character of each release.
