Special Features:

The whisky was distilled at Caol Ila in 2010 and then matured for 15 years in refill American hogshead No. 313534. Gordon & MacPhail bottled it on 27 November 2025 for its Connoisseurs Choice range at a cask strength of 56.2%.

This single-cask bottling bears batch number 25/049 and was selected for the German market. The release comprises 276 bottles of 0.7 litres each. The whisky is non-chill-filtered, contains no added colouring and comes in a gift box.

Its profile combines apples and orange with mango, pineapple and pear. Almonds, maritime notes, peat smoke and glowing campfire embers provide a smoky, nutty counterpoint to the fruit and gentle sweetness.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, apple and orange combine with delicate smoke and lightly meaty notes. Almonds and tropical fruit complete the aroma.
• Palate: The whisky is powerful on the palate. Almond is followed by pineapple and mango, while intense peat smoke accompanies the fruit.
• Finish: The finish is long and powerful, with lingering pear, gentle sweetness and glowing campfire embers.

Distillery/Bottler:

Caol Ila was founded on Islay in 1846 and stands in the north-east of the island near the strait between Islay and Jura. When the distillery was rebuilt in the early 1970s, its six stills were replicated to preserve the established spirit profile. The barley is malted in Port Ellen, while the spring water used rises through limestone at Loch nam Ban.

Gordon & MacPhail began as a grocery and spirits merchant in Speyside in 1895 and developed into a specialist in matching spirits with oak casks. George Urquhart launched the Connoisseurs Choice range in 1968 to bottle single malts from various Scottish distilleries independently. For this Caol Ila, Gordon & MacPhail was responsible for independently bottling the single cask.
