Special Features:

Twelve years of maturation give this Cardhu its light, approachable character and silky texture. Honey and pear lead the profile, with heather, resin, malt and gentle wood spice adding further notes. Smoke remains subtle: it appears on the nose especially after adding water, then lingers in the sweet, drying finish.

This single malt has a medium body. A sweet, fresh opening gives way to a distinctly drier palate. It is bottled at 40% in a 0.7-litre bottle and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, pear sweets, heather and resin mingle with honey and nuts. A little water brings out malt, gently spiced wood and a faint trace of wood smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is soft and balanced. After a brief sweet, fresh opening, it becomes distinctly drier.
• Finish: Sweet smoke lingers on the finish as it grows drier.

Distillery/Bottler:

Cardhu Distillery stands in the hills of the Spey Valley. Its story began in 1811 with a small operation run by John and Helen Cumming. Their daughter-in-law Elizabeth later registered Cardhu as a trademark and built a new distillery. Both women played a defining part in its development. Cardhu draws water from springs on Mannoch Hill and from the Lyne Burn. As part of its general production approach, the distillery describes fermenting lightly peated malted barley for around 75 hours and links the longer fermentation to the fruity style of its whisky. This twelve-year-old single malt is an original Cardhu bottling.
