Special features: This 25-year-old rum comes from the legendary, now-closed Caroni distillery in Trinidad. After distillation in 1998, it aged for 22 years in American white oak barrels and then received a 70-month finish in former sherry casks that previously contained whisky. This special cask maturation gives the rum additional complexity and depth.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Intense aromas of tar, herbs, oak wood, and licorice, accompanied by fruity sherry notes.
- Palate: Full-bodied and robust with notes of raisins, orange marmalade, licorice, gentian, black coffee, and cloves.
- Finish: Long and tannic with hints of dark chocolate, chili flakes, and oak.
Distillery/Bottler: The Caroni distillery in Trinidad was known for its high-ester "Heavy" rums, which were used in the British Navy ration. After its closure in 2003, many barrels were taken over by independent bottlers like Rum Nation to preserve the legacy of these unique rums.
