Burgundian Chardonnay provides the wine base for this white vermouth from Joseph Cartron. Its natural recipe includes 19 ingredients, among them infusions of apricots, sloes and Burgundian vineyard peaches. The vermouth brings together the region’s winemaking tradition and fruit varieties with a spicy, floral aromatic character.

In the glass, the vermouth has a bright lemon-yellow colour. It contains 16.5% alcohol and comes in a 0.75-litre bottle. Its combination of fruit, floral notes and spices also lends itself to cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is open, revealing expressive notes of cloves and nutmeg.
• Palate: The vermouth opens broadly and fully on the palate. Spicy, fruity and floral impressions are well balanced.
• Finish: The finish is fresh and long-lasting.

Distillery/Bottler:

Joseph Cartron was founded in 1882 in Nuits-Saint-Georges and remains based there in Burgundy. Crème de Cassis de Bourgogne made from local blackcurrants played a formative role in the company’s development. Expertise in processing fruit has been passed down through five generations; today, the range includes spirits and aperitifs alongside fruit liqueurs.

For its fruit products, the company works wherever possible with Burgundian growers with whom it has longstanding relationships. Depending on the ingredient and product, it uses cold maceration in stainless-steel vessels or processing with heat in a copper still. The duration and subsequent processing steps are adapted to each ingredient. With its vermouths, Joseph Cartron draws directly on the region’s winemaking: Chardonnay forms the base of the white vermouth, while Pinot Noir provides the base of the red.
