Ginger roots from Thailand and Brazil define Joseph Cartron's Liqueur de Gingembre. They give it a distinctly spicy flavour and a lasting aromatic presence. The roots are macerated in alcohol to extract their aromas.

The liqueur is clear and bright. Its character combines ginger spice with peppery and earthy impressions. It contains 18% alcohol and comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres, without additional packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals spice notes and white pepper, alongside the fresh, green scent of peeled ginger. Hints of damp hay and roots add to the aroma.
• Palate: Earthy notes reminiscent of damp soil emerge on the palate. Candied ginger root and a hint of lemon add to the flavour profile. Exhaling through the nose reveals spicy and peppery aromas.
• Finish: The finish feels dry rather than sweet and leaves a tingling sensation.

Distillery/Bottler:

Joseph Cartron founded the house bearing his name in 1882 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Burgundy, where it still operates today. Its history is particularly closely linked to Crème de Cassis de Bourgogne, made from local blackcurrants. Over several generations, the range grew to include more than forty specialities.

For local fruit, the house works with growers, some of whom have maintained relationships with it for generations. Ingredients that do not grow in Burgundy are sourced from other growing regions. Its liqueurs are made using neutral alcohol derived from sugar beet and crystallised sugar. Depending on the ingredient, Cartron uses cold maceration in stainless steel vessels or hot maceration in a copper still. The duration, sugar quantity and alcohol strength are tailored to each speciality.
