This grapefruit liqueur combines the sweetness of ripe fruit with a restrained, refreshing bitterness. Joseph Cartron uses juices from selected pink grapefruits grown in Israel and Florida. The choice of fruit shapes the liqueur's flavour, aroma and colour. Its flavour lingers on the palate.

In the glass, the liqueur is pale pink and slightly milky, with a fluid consistency. It contains 18% alcohol and is offered here in a 0.7-litre bottle. Its combination of fruit, sweetness and bitterness also lends itself to cocktails such as the Fresh Pink Cooler or the Pampluna.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The aroma is fresh, combining ripe grapefruit with spearmint and peppermint.
• Palate: On the palate, the liqueur opens softly and roundly, with a rich, supple texture.
• Finish: The finish is fresh, with gentle bitterness.

Distillery/Bottler:

The house of Joseph Cartron was founded in 1882 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Burgundy. Alongside fruit liqueurs and fruit crèmes, it also produces eaux-de-vie, Marc and Fine de Bourgogne. Judith Cartron took over its management in 2011 and represents the fifth generation of the founding family.

Cartron chooses different fruit-processing methods according to the raw material. During maceration, fruit is steeped in neutral alcohol, with the duration depending on the fruit. For its Crème de Cassis de Bourgogne, for example, the house uses the aromatic Noir de Bourgogne variety grown within roughly 20 kilometres of Nuits-Saint-Georges. This variety-specific selection is part of the house's approach; the grapefruit liqueur, by contrast, uses juices from fruit grown in Israel and Florida.
