Special Features:

This heavily peated Chichibu was distilled in 2015 and matured for seven years in first-fill bourbon barrel #4701. In 2023, the distillery bottled the whisky at a cask strength of 63.3% ABV, with an outturn of 192 bottles. This distillery bottling is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

The bottling belongs to the New Vibrations series and was created for La Maison du Whisky. Its intensely smoky character combines medicinal and mineral impressions with salt, pepper and bright fruit, followed by an ashy, citrusy finish.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dense peat smoke mingles with medicinal tincture, iodine and wet chalk.
• Palate: The palate is powerful, salty and peppery, while pear drops provide a bright fruity counterpoint.
• Finish: The long finish combines tropical fruit and citrus notes with smoke and pronounced ash.

Distillery/Bottler:

Ichiro Akuto founded Venture Whisky in 2004 and the Chichibu Distillery in Saitama in 2007; the distillery began producing whisky in 2008. It uses fermentation vats made from Mizunara oak and matures its whiskies in Chichibu’s climatic conditions. The whisky from cask #4701 was released as a distillery bottling for La Maison du Whisky.
