Clément Créole Shrubb combines orange maceration with white and aged Rhum Agricole from Martinique, along with spices and white sugar-cane syrup. For the natural orange extract, oranges are sourced on Martinique, peeled and their skins dried. Maceration then extracts the aromatic components from the peel. The recipe is preserved and passed down within Habitation Clément.

On Martinique, Créole Shrubb is part of the Christmas tradition. Its orange and spice character also lends itself to cocktails: a Shrubb Tonic combines one part liqueur with two parts tonic over ice, finished with citrus fruit. The liqueur contains 40% alcohol and comes in a 0.7-litre bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, candied orange peel mingles with warm baking spices.
• Palate: On the palate, orange marmalade and cloves meet the grassy notes of the rum base.
• Finish: The finish is dry and slightly bitter, with lingering aromatic orange-oil notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

Habitation Clément is located in Le François in southeastern Martinique, surrounded by sugar-cane fields. Since the Clément family acquired the property in 1887, its history has been intertwined with the development of the house. Today, the extensive agricultural estate brings together a historic Creole manor house, a contemporary art centre and facilities that explore the history and production of rum.

To make Créole Shrubb, Clément combines the ingredients in stainless-steel tanks. Depending on requirements and tasting results, the mixture is blended and homogenised using air, mechanical agitation or pumping. Alongside the traditional extraction of orange aromas, carefully controlled blending methods are therefore part of this liqueur’s production.
