Special Features:

The cask composition shapes this single-batch bottling. Clonakilty marries ten-year-old grain whiskey with four-year-old malt whiskey. The components are initially matured in ex-bourbon casks before the blend receives a three- to six-month finish in new American oak casks and former Bordeaux red wine casks made from European oak. Coopers shave these red wine casks and toast them again to the distillery's specifications. Clonakilty calls this type of cask New Era of Cask (NEOC); this was the first Irish whiskey to receive a NEOC finish.

The 0.7-litre bottling comes in gift packaging and has an alcohol content of 43.6%. The whiskey is non-chill filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines gentle spices and vanilla with freshly cut grass. A delicate perfumed note, ripe apple, pear and fresh leather complete the impression.
• Palate: The palate reveals warm notes of cubeb pepper and ginger alongside freshly cut grass, hazelnut and almond.
• Finish: The finish lingers with sweet vanilla and persistent spice.

Distillery/Bottler:

Clonakilty Distillery stands on the waterfront in the centre of Clonakilty, County Cork, and operates three copper pot stills. It was founded by the Scully family, who have farmed coastal land in south-west Ireland for nine generations. The family grows a traditional barley variety on its farm near Galley Head Lighthouse. For this single-batch bottling, Clonakilty marries the previously matured grain and malt components and carries out their finishing maturation.
