Long maturation in previously used oak casks shapes this Tawny Port from Cockburn's. The blend brings together wines with an average maturation age of 20 years. The age statement therefore describes the blend rather than a uniform ageing period for every component. Maturation in wood combines a delicate, mature character with retained fruitiness and freshness.

Alongside its fruit and nut notes, this amber-coloured Port reveals cedarwood and candied fruit. It contains 20% alcohol and comes in a bottle containing 0.75 litres, with gift packaging.

Enjoy this Tawny lightly chilled in a generously sized Port or white wine glass. It pairs well with dried fruit, walnuts, Portuguese desserts, vanilla ice cream or crème brûlée. Store the bottle in a cool, dry place and consume it within six to eight weeks of opening.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, fruitcake, honey and walnuts form a delicate aromatic blend, complemented by a hint of orange peel. Dried figs and raisins broaden the fruit notes, while the orange peel also has a candied character. Nuances of toasted almonds, dark caramel and warm baking spices add to the bouquet.
• Palate: The Port feels soft, velvety and full-bodied on the palate. Dried fruit and rich, warm nut flavours define its balanced taste. Honeyed fruit notes, fruitcake and roasted coffee complement these flavours. Vibrant natural acidity provides a counterbalance to the intense sweetness.
• Finish: The finish is long and lingering, leaving a warm impression.

Distillery/Bottler:

Scottish brothers Robert and John Cockburn founded Cockburn's in 1815. Charles Symington, Nuno Moreira and Manuel Rocha are responsible for the winemaking of the 20-year-old Tawny.

In Vila Nova de Gaia, Cockburn's maintains a large maturation cellar that remains in active use, housing thousands of oak casks and large wooden vats. Its own team of coopers repairs the previously used oak casks, keeping the maintenance of the vessels needed for maturation in wood firmly in-house.
