Compañero Panama Extra Añejo combines maturation in ex-bourbon casks with a finish in cocoa-flavoured casks. The underlying rum is distilled from molasses in a column still and matured for twelve years. Its 54% strength delivers noticeable power, balanced by a distinctly chocolate-driven profile.

Dark chocolate, cocoa and creamy notes define its character. Milk chocolate, caramel and vanilla add to the profile, with a little orange and touches of wood providing further accents. Despite its high strength, the rum feels smooth and full-bodied, with a warming impression.

The rum is non-chill-filtered and contains no colouring. This version comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres, without gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals intense dark chocolate and warm cream, accompanied by vanilla, delicate spice and a hint of citrus.
• Palate: Despite its high strength, the rum feels smooth, full-bodied and creamy on the palate. Milk chocolate, cocoa, cream candies, buttery caramel and vanilla meet a little orange and spicy touches of wood; the chocolate notes clearly take the lead.
• Finish: The finish is long-lasting. Cocoa remains present as the sweetness gradually fades.

Distillery/Bottler:

The underlying rum is produced in Panama; the Danish company 1423 ApS is responsible for the Compañero brand and releases this bottling within its range. The Spanish name means companion. The range includes different bottlings from Jamaica, Trinidad and Panama.

The story of 1423 began in 2008, when a group of friends discovered rum at a Danish whisky fair. Their first bottling was a blend from Barbados and Trinidad, bottled in November 2008 and released in early 2009. The number assigned to its sample gave the company its name. Their first contacts with rum producers developed into the partnerships that later enabled 1423 to launch its own products.
