Within its total maturation of 14 years, this Dailuaine underwent a 34-month finish in a First Fill Malaga Butt made of European oak. The whisky was distilled in 2009 and bottled by James Eadie in 2024 from cask #361937. Selected for export, this edition comprises 369 bottles at a cask strength of 48.1%. It contains no added colouring and is non-chill-filtered.

Alongside apple notes, the malt has a nutty, earthy, oily character with bitter and spicy touches. Walnut and mustard feature alongside truffle oil and vegetal impressions. Here, the Malaga finish brings more than sweet fruitiness alone.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Damp earth, mild mustard and green walnuts mingle with a hint of apple cider vinegar, tart apple juice and pepper. An oily note then emerges.
• Palate: On the palate, mustard and walnuts meet a little truffle oil, clay and a hint of tobacco. Cooked peppers and artichokes in oil complement these impressions.
• Finish: The finish is long and pleasantly bitter. Candied lemon adds a balancing touch to the lingering flavours.

Distillery/Bottler:

Dailuaine stands beside the Carron Burn, southwest of Aberlour in Speyside. The distillery primarily supplies malt whisky for blends, including Johnnie Walker. Its relatively fast distillation and stainless-steel components in the condensers, which reduce copper contact, contribute to its robust, full-bodied distillery style. One historical distinction is the malt kiln roof designed by Charles Doig in 1889: Dailuaine was the first site to feature the pagoda roof that later became characteristic of Scottish distilleries.

James Eadie is an independent bottler specialising in cask finishes and single-cask and small-batch bottlings of single malt and single grain Scotch whisky. The name goes back to James Eadie, who founded his brewing and bottling business in 1854. His great-great-grandson Rupert Patrick later revived the historic blend James Eadie’s Trade Mark ‘X’. For this Dailuaine, James Eadie oversaw the whisky’s extended Malaga finish and its bottling in 2024.
