Special Features:

The Dalmore Quartet was released in 2020 alongside The Trio and The Quintet as part of a range developed for travel retail. The names refer to three, four and five separate cask finishes respectively; accordingly, four distinct finishing paths form the final composition of the Quartet.

The single malt was initially matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks. The whisky was then divided among first-fill ex-bourbon casks, casks that had held 30-year-old Matusalem or Apostoles Sherry, and Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon barriques. Finally, the four parcels were brought back together. This version contains 0.7 litres at 41.5% alcohol and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals Madagascan vanilla, candied blood orange and ripe red grapes.
• Palate: On the palate, Christmas stollen and sherry-soaked raisins mingle with soft liquorice that adds a lightly chewy bite.
• Finish: Doyenne pear, raspberry coulis and chocolate truffle linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Dalmore Distillery is located in Alness on the Cromarty Firth in the northern Highlands. Sir Alexander Matheson founded it in 1839, and the Mackenzie brothers began operating it in 1867. The twelve-pointed stag displayed on the bottles refers to the distillery’s historical connection with Clan Mackenzie.

Its distinctive distillation equipment includes four flat-topped wash stills and four spirit stills with cooled necks. This cooling increases reflux within the stills and contributes to the individual character of the spirit. For the Quartet, this is followed by a cask programme in which parcels finished separately are deliberately reunited.
