Winter’s Gold brings together Dalwhinnie distillates produced during the cold months from October to March. The particularly cold cooling water causes the vapour to condense more quickly in the traditional worm tubs, reducing its contact with copper. This creates a somewhat heavier distillery character that gives greater presence to the gentle honeyed sweetness, complemented by heather, a waxy quality and a delicate note of peat.

This expression carries no age statement. Dalwhinnie whiskies of different ages are married to create its flavour profile, and the age of the youngest component may vary between bottlings. The whisky is bottled at 43% in a 0.7-litre bottle and comes without gift packaging. Dalwhinnie recommends serving it ice-cold or straight from the freezer; its texture is soft and syrupy.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines honey, caramel tart and apricot with orange zest, menthol, wax and restrained smoke.
• Palate: The palate is soft, creamy and honeyed, with ripe autumn fruit, gingerbread and malt loaf alongside hints of molasses and mint; delicate smoke joins later.
• Finish: The finish is long and warming, with sweet malt, raisins and dark chocolate as well as delicate hints of date and sandalwood.

Distillery/Bottler:

The whisky comes from the Dalwhinnie Distillery and is an official distillery bottling. Located 355 metres above sea level in Cairngorms National Park, the distillery has produced Highland single malt Scotch whisky there since 1897.

The distillery’s traditional production methods include outdoor worm tubs. In these condensers, spirit vapours condense inside coiled pipes surrounded by cold water; the limited copper contact supports a richer distillery character. Dalwhinnie is part of Diageo’s single malt portfolio.
