American oak and former sherry casks shape the maturation of this Dictador Jerarquía Fino. Made from sugar cane honey, the rum was distilled in 1981 and spent 39 years in cask. Cask ExSh-1238 yielded 300 bottles; the rum was bottled in September 2020 at 42% alcohol.

Dark fruit, bold spice notes and austere oak complement an unusual contrast between pastry aromas and a dry, tropical-fruit palate. The hints of red wine jus and creamy Champagne are part of the rum’s aromatic expression.

The bottle, sealed with a gold-coloured wax capsule, is presented in cream-coloured gift packaging with gold decoration. It contains 0.7 litres. Enjoying it neat reveals a range of flavours spanning spiced pastries, citrus notes and tropical fruit.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings together ginger cake, cherry cola and red wine jus with stone fruit. These are joined by hints of Pastéis de Nata, the Portuguese custard tarts, and a touch of honey.
• Palate: The rum is dry on the palate while also recalling creamy Champagne. Grapefruit and tropical fruit emerge, including pineapple and green mango, complemented by coconut.
• Finish: The tropical fruit notes continue into the finish, accompanied by light sugar syrup and lime zest.

Distillery/Bottler:

Destilería Colombiana in Cartagena de Indias produced the rum for this bottling. The Jerarquía collection draws on old cask stocks belonging to the Parra family, from a distillery that has since closed. Its name means hierarchy in Spanish and denotes a selection of long-held rums within Dictador’s vintage collections.

Master Blender Hernan Parra represents the third generation of his family and selects the casks for Dictador’s Vintages Collection. Jerarquía launched in 2021 with 15 selected casks. The collection encompasses different maturations in American oak and former sherry and port wine casks, with each single-cask bottling retaining its own flavour profile.
