Special Features:

This Bas-Armagnac belongs to Darroze's Unique Collection, which keeps each estate and vintage separate. Every Armagnac in the collection matures in its own 420-litre oak cask. The spirit from Domaine de Pouillas was distilled in 2002 and matured for 22 years in oak casks before Darroze bottled it in August 2024. No Armagnacs from other estates or vintages are blended into this collection. Nor is water added: its 49.5% is the natural cask strength.

Domaine de Pouillas uses Baco grapes and continuous distillation, with local oak for maturation. Darroze bottles this release unfiltered and without added colouring. Its fruity character combines with sweet, spiced cake notes. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in a black gift box.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: The nose is lively and fruit-led. Apricots, plums, orange and apple are accompanied by subtle oak notes and a hint of cinnamon.
  • Palate: The palate balances sweet quince jelly with candied orange. Honey-glazed dates and moist spice cake complement the fruit with sweetness and spice.
  • Finish: Bright fruit aromas and gentle spice linger on the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Domaine de Pouillas is in Le Frêche, within the area known as the Golden Triangle of Bas-Armagnac. The Duporté family's four-hectare estate lies on yellow-brown sandy soils and is planted entirely with Baco. Duporté is responsible for production, while Roumat carries out the continuous distillation. Darroze selects the Armagnac and bottles it as part of its Unique Collection.

The story of Darroze began in Jean Darroze's restaurant in Villeneuve-de-Marsan. His son Francis discovered the wines and spirits of Gascony there and, from the late 1960s onwards, increasingly visited small producers in Bas-Armagnac. His selection of spirits, their further maturation and subsequent bottling grew into the house of Darroze. Marc Darroze joined the business in 1994 and now runs it. Its maturation cellars are in Roquefort and Labastide d’Armagnac; alongside its stocks of old casks, the house also looks after freshly distilled spirits from small producers.
