Enigma Part 2 is the more intense half of a warehouse comparison created for Edradour’s 200th anniversary. Distilled on 10 October 1989, the spirit matured for 35 years entirely in first-fill Oloroso sherry butt 368. Unlike Enigma Part 1, this cask was stored in a modern, partially underground concrete warehouse with permanent air circulation.

The dry storage conditions resulted in substantial liquid loss while preserving an unusually high alcoholic strength. On 2 July 2025, the whisky from cask 368 was bottled at 62.3%, yielding just 379 bottles. Concentrated sherry fruit combines with espresso, cocoa, robust oak and dry, warming spice. The whisky has natural colour and is non-chill-filtered; this anniversary release comes in a presentation box with two glasses.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Dark raisins, dates, espresso and toffee are deep and concentrated. Dark chocolate and polished mahogany follow, accompanied by a hint of roasted nuts and a delicate smoky nuance of incense.
• Palate: The whisky is dense, full-bodied and oily on the palate. Rum-soaked fruitcake, cocoa powder and candied orange combine with sweet dried fruit, caramel, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg.
• Finish: The finish is very long, dry and warming. Dark chocolate, figs, oak, sherry fruit and dry spices linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Edradour distillery was founded in 1825 and is located in Pitlochry in the Scottish Highlands. It operates on a small scale using traditional methods and has once again been independently owned since 2002 under Andrew Symington, founder of the independent bottler Signatory Vintage. Edradour Distillery Co. Ltd produced this single malt and released it as an official Edradour bottling. The Enigma range comprises special releases celebrating the distillery’s 200th anniversary.
