Special Features:

The cask composition shapes Batch 005 of the Elsburn Distillery Edition 2025: the cask pool comprises 50% first-fill Pedro Ximénez, 25% first-fill Palo Cortado and 25% first-fill Oloroso casks. The whisky was bottled at 46%, yielding 4,043 bottles of 0.7 litres each. It is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

The three sherry styles combine raisin cake, mandarin and plum with caramel, toffee and bitter orange. Baking spices and oak give the rich fruit a dry contour, while a delicate hint of smoke remains in the background.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals raisins, mandarin and peach alongside candied fruit, caramel, toffee and bitter orange.
• Palate: On the palate, raisin cake and plum combine with vanilla, mandarin, baking spices, toffee and oak.
• Finish: The finish is medium in length and warming, with dried fruit, bitter orange and toffee giving way to dry oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

Hercynian Distilling Co. produced the whisky at Hammerschmiede and bottled it there as Batch 005. The Elsburn brand is managed by Hammerschmiede Spirituosen GmbH. The distillery has produced spirits since 1985 and began filling casks with new make for its Harz single malt in 2002. Since 2019, new bottlings of the brand formerly known as The Glen Els have appeared under the Elsburn name.

At its Walkenried site, the distillery works with malted barley from the region. The wort ferments in French oak washbacks and is then double-distilled in wood-fired pot stills. Bottling, corking, sealing and labelling are also carried out by hand.
